May Day with the Fremont Arts Council is always a cozy celebration with friends! This year was the largest FAC May Day in memory with over 200 people joining and celebration together in the park. There was dancing, folk music, drums, flower crowns, slack line, juggling, singing, Morris dancers, a Green Man puppet, a potluck, and all the usual faces.
FAC has been working on a new Green Man Puppet and it made itโs debut at May Day. Itโs pictured here with a group of Morris dancers who performed several times for the merriment of all.
The regular crowd of volunteers: Pete, Lambo, Darren, and Maque helped get the poles raised. At the end of the May Pole this lovely indidivual gave a blessing and lead us in a moment of harmony to help connect us with our Mother.
Fourty kids ran apart, dancing and weaved the first May Pole (unpictured). Fifty adults helped weaving a second May Pole.
This year we used 2400 feet of ribbons! 80 ribbons 30 foot long! My parents helped cut them to the precise length before the event.
Afterwards the ribbons were carefully reclaimed so that they can be used in future May Poles and for other celebration art. Raising the May Poles for May Day is Sethโs favorite volunteering roles. They are planning to bring FACโs May Poles to two other events, SOAK* and Critical, this year to spread the merriment.
If you were there, we cherished spending a perfect Seattle spring day with you, in a park, in celebration!
